Okay, this is probably going to tick people off, but I’ve reached that age in life where I honestly don’t’ care to pussy-foot around things and be politically correct. In doing so, I am not ever intending to hurt anyone or offend anyone. In today’s hyper-sensitive society, it has become impossible not to offend someone.
I remember the America that Trump wants to make great again. There is a huge divide in this country, because there exist generations that do not understand or relate to the feeling of patriotism/love of country that once enveloped this nation. For decades, students have been taught altered history, have been indoctrinated to the liberal agenda and now fall in lock step with those trampling and burning the American flag as a misguided belief it is their personal right.
My children are the exact same generation as those now being used as pawns to tear apart out country. I homeschooled my children which prohibited the indoctrination of their peers. My sons joined the Army and served their country in combat as a personal cost. Despite their age, they too understand true patriotism and love of country. Veterans across this nation, who willingly wrote a blank check to this nation payable with their lives did so for the American people.
I know and have known immigrants that came to this nation to better their lives and that of their loved ones. They wanted to become Americans.
The root of the divide in this country is the lack of assimilation by people and groups to become part of this nation. Until recently, people came to this nation to be a part of the nation- not to change it. The American lifestyle, beliefs and freedoms drew the oppressed from around the world like a moth to a flame. However, things have changed. With the introduction of dual loyalties came more division. People became identified by race or ethnicity instead of simply being Americans. African-American, Asian-American, Mexican-American and so on…. This does not work for a nation to be untied. We are all either Americans or we are not.
When I or anyone else goes to a foreign country as a guest, we expect to have to adhere to the rules, laws and socially acceptable behaviors of the host nation. I have no right to go to Japan and expect everyone to suddenly not only speak Japanese, present everything written in my known language instead of Japanese and so forth. As a guest I know I must conform to the nation of which I am a guest.
If I or anyone choose to move to another nation to make that my new home; I should expect that to be a part of that new nation one must: learn the language of the nation, learn to read and communicate in the native language of the nation, learn and follow the laws and rules of that nation and its society. Additionally, in most other countries a person has to provide documented proof that they have a means of income to support themselves/family if they were to be allowed to live in the country. As an individual in a foreign land I will always have the freedom to practice my faith, my culture and my “American” ways in the privacy of my home or among others who are similar to myself. I would have absolutely no right to expect differently from the citizens of that country.
Today in this country we have a lot of really inconsiderate and rude guests. They do not try to learn the culture, the language, the rules and laws of this country. Instead they have pushed their own cultures, languages, and beliefs onto the American people and our leaders have allowed it and encourage it. Some have entered this country through illegal means; making them like a robber breaking into our homes/communities through unscrupulous and unlawful means. These intruders do not blend into our culture and nation; instead they seek to conform the nation to fit their own cultures and past homelands. This is wrong.
It is not racist to want to protect the American nation, the American ideals and American values. It is instead UN-AMERICAN to simply sit idly by while the cities, suburbs, towns and states of this great nation become muddled with the confusion, violence and non-assimilation of other ethnic and religious groups that insist on their way over that of the American people- most of which are relying on the financial support of the tax dollars of the hard-working Americans being pushed aside.
So yes, I believe a litmus test should be applied to anyone seeking legal entry, refuge or citizenship of the United States. If one cannot pledge allegiance to the AMERICAN flag, to follow the AMERICAN laws and communicate in the English language used by AMERICANS and demonstrate/provide legitimate proof of the ability to financially support themselves/their families- than perhaps this is not the country they should seek out. I further believe that anyone who commits a crime as their first act with America (illegal entry) should be immediately detained and sent back to the border for deportation. IF these individuals want to seek citizenship, they are welcome- after first seeking lawful, permitted entry into the country.
As a nation we can no longer afford to welcome those abandoning their own homelands. Rather than rewarding those that run away from the problems in their own lands; as a nation we need to work with the nations/countries near these troubled areas to build the same protections and safety we value here in our country in those areas.
Allowing those fleeing chaos to freely enter this country, also condones the introduction and continuation of the very same problems that brought that chaos into our country and onto our citizens. The middle-east has been at war with each other for centuries. Our open border policy, and that of Europe, has essentially created a flooding of that same warring to occur here in our streets and in our neighborhoods.
I welcome the immigrant who wishes to be an American. I highly recommend being American. But those seeking such status, should fully embrace being American and only American. This idea is not a new one. Our forefathers and previous great leaders of this nation knew this too:
“In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person’s becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American…There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn’t an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag… We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language… and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.”
-Theodore Roosevelt 1907
